Surana Enterprises: More Than a Store, A Trusted Partner of the Griffith Malayalee Community
As the Malayalee community in Griffith continues to grow, one thing has become increasingly important to many families โ having access to the products, ingredients, and flavours that remind us of home.
For years, many families in our community would make regular trips to larger regional centres such as Wagga Wagga to purchase Kerala and Indian grocery items that were difficult to find locally. These trips often became a monthly routine, requiring significant travel just to stock up on everyday essentials.
Today, that reality has changed considerably, thanks in part to the support and responsiveness of a local business that many of us know well โ Surana Enterprises.
Located at Shop 4/9โ11 Railway Street, Griffith, Surana Enterprises has been serving the local community since 2007. As an Asian and Islander grocery store, it has become a familiar destination for families from many cultural backgrounds across the region.
For the Griffith Malayalee community, however, Surana Enterprises has become something even more meaningful.

Listening to the Community
As more Malayalee families settled in Griffith over recent years, the demand for Kerala-specific products naturally increased. Rather than viewing these requests as just another business opportunity, the team at Surana Enterprises took the time to listen.
Community members regularly shared feedback about products that were difficult to source locally, and the store responded by expanding its range to better serve local needs. This commitment has helped reduce the need for long-distance shopping trips and made it easier for families to access familiar products closer to home.
One example that many families appreciate is the availability of seasonal Onam feast items, including frozen Onam meal packs during the festive season. Small gestures like these may seem simple, but they make a significant difference to families wanting to celebrate important cultural traditions while living in regional Australia.
What stands out most is not any single product on the shelf, but the willingness of the store team to listen, respond, and support the needs of the community.

A Partnership Built on Community Spirit
While many community members had already been shopping at Surana Enterprises for years, the relationship between Griffith Malayalees and the business grew stronger during preparations for our Onam 2025 celebrations.
As a newly growing community organisation, Griffith Malayalees approached local businesses seeking support for cultural events. Surana Enterprises was among those who stepped forward and demonstrated their commitment to community initiatives.
Since then, the business has supported several of our events, including our Onam 2025 celebrations and New Year Lucky Draw 2026. Their contributions have included sponsorship funding as well as gifts and prizes that helped make these events more enjoyable and memorable for participants.
Community events rely heavily on the generosity of local supporters. When businesses choose to invest in cultural celebrations, they help create opportunities for families to come together, preserve traditions, and build lasting connections.

Friendly Faces Behind the Counter
One of the reasons many community members continue to support Surana Enterprises is the welcoming atmosphere created by the people who work there.
Whether speaking with owner Sanjay Surana or other members of the team, customers are greeted with friendliness, respect, and a genuine willingness to help. Over time, many community members have developed relationships that go beyond a typical customer-business interaction.
When product requests are made, the team listens. When new items arrive, the community is informed. When feedback is provided, it is taken seriously.
This level of personal service has helped build trust and strengthen the connection between the store and the families it serves.

Supporting Those Who Support Our Community
At Griffith Malayalees, we strongly believe in supporting local businesses that actively support our community.
Businesses such as Surana Enterprises play an important role in helping multicultural communities thrive in regional Australia. Their willingness to adapt, listen, and invest in community initiatives contributes to making Griffith a more welcoming and connected place for everyone.
As our community continues to grow, partnerships like these become increasingly valuable. They help preserve cultural traditions, support local economic growth, and strengthen the relationships that make regional communities special.
On behalf of Griffith Malayalees, we extend our sincere appreciation to Sanjay Surana and the entire team at Surana Enterprises for their ongoing support, generosity, and commitment to serving our community.
We encourage our members and the wider community to support local businesses that support local people.
